In July, 2016, the NFL released a new policy to discipline teams which violate the concussion protocol. The policy gives the commissioner the authority to issue fines of $50,000-$150,000 or a loss of draft picks for a first offense, and minimum of $100,000 for subsequent offenses. The commissioner may increase the penalties if determines the protocol was ignored for competitive reasons.
