Discussion Post: Coding Books vs. Encoders
For this extra-credit discussion, I am seeking your opinion on the following to determine if requiring the codebooks is necessary given the 3M encoder access.
a) Do you feel that requiring students to purchase the ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS code books is worth it?
b) Do you feel that given access to the 3M encoder, that this would be required instead of the ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codebooks?
c) As the instructor, I struggle with the cost of requiring not only the two codebooks and the encoder. Would you be comfortable as a student learning to code, e.g. given the first few weeks of the quarter, just using the 3M encoder and not having your codebooks as well?
