Assignment task: There has been recent press about a woman named Brittany Maynard, a 29 year old woman terminally ill from brain cancer who decided to move to Oregon to take advantage of their "Death with Dignity" act, which essentially allows assisted suicide under strict circumstances. Several other states have considered adopting such rules and a few other countries have as well, most famously Switzerland. Below is a documentary about so-called "Suicide Tourism".
Do you believe that states should adopt the Oregon model or the Switzerland model? Should individuals have the right to take their own life free of criminal consequences? What implications may there be with regards to estate planning if one would be able to actually choose their date of death?
