The past few years have seen several states take a much more tolerant approach towards marijuana regulation. Notably, Colorado and Washington State have gone so far as to legalize the recreational use of the drug for people over 21. Illinois legalized medical marijuana last year, and there is currently pending legislation that would decriminalize marijuana possession and another bill that would fully legalize marijuana for individuals over 21. One of the major concerns raised by marijuana critics is that legalized pot would increase the incidence of impaired driving. Do you believe that legalizing marijuana would result in more impaired drivers, and, if so, what steps could lawmakers take to discourage people from driving after using marijuana?
