Assignment: Ethics in Criminal Justice
This assignment has two parts:
1) Carefully read the article titled "Hellhole" by AtulGawande in The New Yorker.
2) Answer each of the following questions:
a. Do you believe that the use of solitary confinement in the United States violates citizens' Eighth Amendment right against cruel and unusual punishment?
b. Do you believe solitary confinement can be defined as torture?
c. Do you believe that the use of solitary confinement in the United States is an ethical practice? Why or why not?
Your paper should be two pages in length, double spaced, in 12 point Times New Roman font (failure to follow these instructions will result in loss of points).
