Discussion Post: Healthcare as a For-Profit Business
Healthcare, including hospitals, pharmaceutical, and insurance companies in the United States make millions and millions, and in some cases billions and billions, of dollars in profit annually. Healthcare is one of the largest and most profitable industries in the U.S. The number one reason why most Americans go bankrupt is because they get ill and cannot afford to pay their medical expenses and bills.
Do you believe it is ethical to make money, i.e., profit, from people who are sick? If so, why. If not, why not? If you believe it is unethical, what do you propose be done to our current for-profit health care industry?
