The Hippocratic Oath is a wide medical known greek text. A new physician will say the oath and swear upon a number of healing gods and that they will uphold a number of professional ethical standards. Even though it has been revised, it is still a oath that is said upon entry into the medical world and is more of a pledge now.

I do believe it provides a strong foundation for medical ethics. These physicians have gone to school for years and chose this profession because they truly want to help others. I feel like the new pledge states a lot of things that they have learned in medical school and goes along with HIPPA, like where it states that "I WILL RESPECT the secrets that are confided in me, even after the patient has died".

Saying the oath or pledge shows that they will respect the medical world ethically and are words they will work by. I do believe that some physicians will look back at that moment saying it when they are having a hard time making a decision that may not be ethical. I feel like it's something they will read when going through conflict as someone would read verses from a bible when they are needing some uplifting.
