Annotated Bibliography Assignment
Topic 1: English Should not be the Global Language
Topic 2: A Culture does have a responsibility to take care of its vulnerable members
Directions: 1) For the THESIS STATEMENT you have chosen for your essay for Assignment #1, please do the following:
a) Do some research about the background of the topic that you have been assigned. In a one-page summary, discuss:
1) The nature of this issue (Where did it come from? Why/How did it arise? When did it become an issue?)
2) The key players in this issue (if any stand out as noteworthy)
3) The central concepts that are involved
4) What have been the most recent developments (if any) in this discussion?
b) Find five (5) sources which might be helpful to you in the completion of your assignment.
1) Three of the sources must be articles from the AUD databases
2) One of the sources must be a book or an e-Book available through the library
3) One of the sources must be a website-either a .edu or .org
c) Create an Annotated Bibliography (in alphabetical order, MLA format) for those five (5) sources which follows the introduction in class.
1) Each of the annotation entries must be approximately 100 words and should contain the following information:
Information: What is the source?
Who is the writer?
What is the content of the source? (i.e. brief summary)
How does the writer support his or her thesis?
Evaluation: Useful/not useful?
Well-written?
Intended audience?
Understandable?
Relation (possible): Can you relate it to any other source on the list?
Is this source a response to any of the other sources on the list?
How might you use this source in your essay for this semester (for memorable quotes, statistics, background information or general reference)?
