Do individuals have an inherent right to bear arms

Description:

Do individuals have an inherent right to bear arms? Are there any restrictions that are acceptable (ie. types of guns, ammunition, safety requirements, background checks, or registration requirements etc)?

Do you think that the high levels of gun violence and deadly school schootings in the US (ie. UC Santa Barbara, Santa Monica College, or the 74 school shootings since Sandy Hook Elementary) would be reduced by gun control legislation? Why or why not?

Examples: Would a ban on assault weapons reduce gun violence? Would mandatory background checks of all gun buyers keep guns way from dangerous people? Do state laws allowing citizens to carry concealed weapons make communities safer?

Should addressing these issues be a top priority for Congress? Why hasn’t Congress acted?
