Distinguish phonological awareness and phonemic awareness


Question: All early childhood Educators should know the differences between phonological awareness and phonemic awareness because each concept plays an important role in students' literacy development. It's really important that and early childhood educators know the difference because they need to be able to teach the information the right way. Knowing the differences will also help the teacher get the resources that they need to support all of the students. By understanding the differences will have an opportunity to plan appropriately for instruction and formulate assessment strategies for all students'. For example, they will be able to plan fun activities that will help with Phonological awareness, like rhyming games or segmenting and blending. Phonemic awareness can be incorporated by activities like identifying and changing word sounds. Teaching students letter identification and letter sounds is a must to help develop their love for reading and their reading progress.
