Dissolved Gases
The marine environment serves as a gigantic reservoir of dissolved oxygen and carbon dioxide, which respectively help regulate the composition of the air we breathe and the temperature of the atmosphere.
Alkalinity
The sea is alkaline, as the electrical dissociation force of cations exceeds that of anions. Further it is buffered and has a pH of 8.2 normally, and so resists changes in pH.
