Display the two sets of data on separate dot plots comment

Judgmental samples

a. Keep the accompanying sheet of rectangles covered until the instructor gives the signal to begin. Then look at the sheet for a few seconds and write down your guess as to the average area of the rectangles on the sheet. (The unit of measure is the background square. Thus, rectangle 33 has area 4 X 3 = 12.)

b. Select five rectangles that, in your judgment, are representative of the rectangles on the page. Write down the area for each of the five. Compute the average of the five areas, and compare it to your guess. Are the two numbers close?

c. The instructor will provide you with all class members guesses and the aver~ ages of their subjective samples of five rectangles. Display the two sets of data on separate dot plots. Comment on the shape of these distributions and where they center. Why is the center an important point to consider?
