Discussion topic of a rare earth mineral-terbium

Problem: Respond to this in a short friendly message and show interest

For my discussion topic of a rare earth mineral that is used in the production of cellular phones is Terbium. Terbium is found in the U.S., China, India, Russia and Australia. Terbium is not found in nature by itself; it is extracted from other minerals. Most commonly found in cerite, xenotime and gadolinite. As this element must be extracted additional processes are required in addition to the typical forms of mining as in the case of strip mining. Strip mining in general creates a large pit dug into the earth for extraction of the desired materials. All of the overburden material is pushed to the side of the mine if not sold as a secondary material for fill. Due to the mining process there is a huge potential for deadly "run-off" chemicals during rains that can poison eco-systems. Aside from the chemical aspects the working conditions at times are less than desirable.  When mining occurs in unregulated countries safety is a huge problem for the workers. Mine operators run the mine with production in mind rather than safety. Safety costs money and time to ensure all rules are followed. Profitability is the "bottom line" within an operation. Non=regulated countries with minimal rules are attractive to mining companies and manufacturing due to the amount of profit. It is a well proven fact that most corporations that source materials from third world nations are not concerned with decimation their operations have on the inhabitants along with the environmental impact to the area.  As in the U.S. programs are in place to ensure a reclamation plan is in place for rejuvenation of the mine area prior to the first day of operations.
