1. Read the following chapter from the book, "Patient Safety and Quality: An Evidence-Based Handbook for Nurses" and provide a brief overview.

2. From the book, "Patient Safety and Quality: An Evidence-Based Handbook for Nurses," select one other chapter to read and provide a brief overview.  Apply the main concepts to the long-term care facility environment.  

3. List the National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG) from the Joint Commission's website appropriate to the long-term care environment and what precautions should the nurse take relative to EACH safety goal.

4. Utilizing the National Patient Safety Goals, find an evidence-based practice article that discusses one safety issue you found during the simulation. Explain how the article supports the goal, summarize the goal, and reflect upon how corrections can be made. Need Assignment Help?

A. Are falls in older adults a normal part of aging? Explain.

B. What can cause falls? (Think about diagnoses, medication, and environment)

D. What factors will you assess in your patient regarding fall risk?

E. You are working as the LPN in the nursing home and one of the residents has fallen in the bathroom.  What will you do? Any specific assessments you will perform?

F. You are working in a Long-Term Care (LTC) facility and there have been 3 falls within the past week.  You have been selected to work with a team on a policy to reduce the risk of falls.  What general safety precautions could you suggest adding to the policy from the article?
