Question: In addition to energy efficiency, water conservation techniques have gained popularity in Barbados. Rainwater harvesting is becoming increasingly popular in the Caribbean as a means of creating sustainable cities, Omolora et al (2020). The Caribbean is an area that is prone to droughts and water shortages. In many Caribbean countries, the traditional sources of water such as rivers and reservoirs are becoming increasingly depleted due to climate change and population growth. As a result, rainwater harvesting has emerged as a practical solution to the water crisis. Many residential areas have adopted rainwater harvesting systems, which allow homeowners to collect and store rainwater for non-potable uses, such as irrigation and toilet flushing. The Ministry of Water Resources (2020) reports that these systems have become increasingly popular, particularly in new developments, as they help alleviate pressure on the municipal water supply and promote sustainable water use.
