Nurturing toys are helpful in that they provide children with something to take care of and be gentle with. These toys encourage child clients to express positive emotions toward something outside themselves which is good while developing empathy (VanFleet et al., 2010). Nurturing toys are also good sources for comfort when a child needs it. These toys can also cause issues, though, in that children may depend on nurturing toys. For example, I have worked with many two-year-old children who had a difficult time parting with a stuffed animal or blanket they felt they needed with them at all times. Sometimes becoming less reliant on a nurturing toy is addressed by parents or caregivers in play therapy as a goal to achieve. Being reliant on a nurturing toy might lead to problems when it comes to learning how to calm one's self without an object (VanFleet et al., 2010). An aggressive toy is a good source for release of emotions and any type of strains a child may feel, but have problems expressing (VanFleet et al., 2010). These toys are beneficial when a child wants to actively be doing something in response to what they have difficulty finding the words to say. Aggressive toys are also helpful in that they help children feel a sense of control over events and emotions in their day-to-day lives (VanFleet et al., 2010). Need Assignment Help?
