Hello everyone,

This course provided a great opportunity to think more deeply as a scholar and to learn about the importance of research and how it contributes to producing knowledge and new ideas. I have experienced a significant learning curve during this course, which has enhanced my confidence level and boosted my academic critical thinking abilities. By following the information and reading material provided, I was strengthened to better understand scholarly information and identify the information that matched my research topic. According to Sletto et al. (2020), there are several reasons that can help a doctoral student build confidence and, on the other hand, reduce their confusion and anxiety; these reasons include having access to structured writing support, peer review assistance, and scholarly collaboration with others, which can assist them in building a higher confidence level. I feel more prepared to begin my first capstone project now because I better understand the importance of research and how to follow the appropriate instructions. Moreover, it would be equally important to maintain writing consistency and not lose focus to obtain an acceptable result.

I would say a few of my strengths are being consistent and persistent throughout my doctoral journey; I have always tried to stay committed and manage my time while facing different challenges related to work and balancing various tasks and responsibilities. On the other hand, being challenged to stay organized, manage my over thinking, and improve my work quality could be weaknesses that I have been facing. I trust the learning process and focus on continuously improving these weaknesses. Overall, this course has boosted my confidence as a doctoral student; of course, the capstone project is a challenging academic journey, but I feel more capable with the information I gained during this valuable course to move forward, motivated. Hello everyone,

When I started this class, I was full of apprehension. I have never done well in Spring Semester classes in my past because I get burned out from taking classes summer and fall. This time I only had one class, but it was still a struggle. The most difficult part of the class for me was the template. I don't know if my Word was incompatible, but I typed using the template, but it would change my margins and other things. One thing that frustrated me the most was that I would start again on the template and make mistakes because I was copying and pasting the previous work. It would have been better if I just started typing everything over from scratch. What I learned to do next time is to do that, just retype and not try to save time by copying and pasting my previous work on the template while having formatting issues.

My growth stems from this issue. I learned to never give up and to not turn in an assignment even when I am not allowed to type the survey questions I need to type without messing up the entire template. I learned to adapt to my weaknesses and just pray to God for favor. I think prayer and research skills are strength because I love to do research.

In the future, I am going to utilize the writing center a lot more to compensate my weaknesses instead of spending hours and hours on formatting when I need to spend that time on content and making sure I have no grammatical errors. A friend of mine told me to wait a day and then read what I write, which I will begin to do as well. So, I will read what I actually typed and not what I was trying to communicate.

One of my biggest problems is not typing concise sentences. I have a degree in English, and I was taught to be wordy, and this is to my detriment just like MLA formatting instead of APA formatting. I know that by using the writing center, I can help turn my weaknesses into strength throughout this journey.

My sense of preparedness is growing as I get ready to embark on my next stage in my doctoral pursuit. I am ready to redesign my research topic and take criticism so that I can produce a dissertation that not only gains me a degree but also bring change to my school community. I keep telling people if I graduate, and they tell me to stop saying if. They say to say when. I am trying to have that mindset knowing that it is by God's grace (His ability in my inability) that I will be able to conform to the requirements that I need to meet in order to successfully complete this research project and obtain my degree.

Finally, the verse that has been a source of encouragement to me do to a recent loss of a family member while I try to show up for job, family, and graduate school is Habbakuk 3:19: The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights (New International Version, 1973/2011). As I pray and meditate on the Word, I know he will help me seek help for my weaknesses and lean on Him for my strength as I seek guidance to keep me encourage to not giving up.
