Problem:
Genetic counseling can be very helpful to people who want to be potential parents but are concerned about things such as possible genetic or chromosomal disorders. A major advantage is that it can give families knowledge about these things and it can also prepare them for just in case. It could help them understand the different things about these diseases and also the risks. It could help them financially prepare and also emotionally too. A disadvantage could be high stress. Some of this information may causes soon to be parent stress and even fear. It can cause relationship problems or mishaps. This is much more at risk if the partners disagree on things like this. Ethically, doctors and nurses must be able to be honest with the partners but also not show any emotion or feelings. The doctors should present the different options to a family without putting pressure on them to lean towards a specific decision. I would personally want to know prior to my child's birth whether they were going to have a genetic defect simply so I could mentally prepare and get things together that I would need for that case.
