I believe the Statue of Liberty is a chosen image because it is historically symbolizes a lot of different things, not only to Americans but different countries, ethnicities and cultures. When people around the world sees the Statue of Liberty it's recognized as a sign of freedom, hope and opportunity. It is one of the major symbols of America. According to the text, " Symbols stand for or represent other things. Words, images, people, ideas, and actions can all be symbols that represent other things" (5). As the text references the Statue of Liberty can be linked to other symbols which naturally groups the meanings together to form what we as Americans know as our culture. The statue of Liberty along with other symbols like the American flag can signify a new start to people around the world, a start toward the American dream. Interculturally, The Statue of Liberty as once known as a kind gesture from the French is also a symbolic welcome to those seeking new beginnings especially in New York. New York city alone is a very big melting pot of people from many diverse backgrounds and cultures.
