Discrimination is a significant problem due to the diversity of staff employed at Maxx, even if it is unintentional. Although in recent years positive strides have been made toward fostering more egalitarian workplaces, evidence indicates discrimination still occurs in the workplace (Colella, Hebl, & King, 2017). Of the employees who are being laid off, 65% are women, 35% are single mothers and 55% are from minority groups. There are significant negative long term effects to employees, workplace morale and image of the company.
