Discussion about current status of american women

Problem:

Topic Ten: American Women The Current Status of American Women What is the "second shift"? What is "mommy tax"? What is known as the "second shift" is a term that describes the double burden of work outside the household along with the care of a child and housework that countless women face and few men share equitably (Schaefer 2019). The "mommy tax" is what lowers the salaries of a woman that has children and it increases the more children the woman had (Schaefer 2019). Estimates range from as low as 5 up to as high as 13 percent for one child but a second child goes from as low as 10 to as high as 19 percent (Schaefer 2019). This was a huge disadvantage to women because they already got paid less than men and then even way more less now due to having children so it was working as hard as a man could in a job but getting paid 2 times less due to having a child. What does "double jeopardy" mean? What is matrix of domination? Terms such as "double jeopardy" and "triple jeopardy" are depictions of disadvantages someone may encounter with two or three statuses (Yang 2000). An example of double jeopardy would be someone being disadvantaged due to their gender and race such as a Hispanic female or a Black female etc. The matrix of domination is the idea that race, class, and gender are all connected systems of inequality that build people's lives via opportunities or experiences as a whole (Yang 2000).
