Discussion about better cognitive performance in children

Problem: Respond to this discussion board post make sure its engaging and encouraging make it 50 words -75 words

The article I chose is from the National Institute of Health, the article is titled Video gaming may be associated with better cognitive performance in children. I chose this article because I have been playing video games since 1995 and still play to this day, my first gaming console was the Playstation 1 followed by the Nintendo 64, Nintendo Gamecube, The original Microsoft Xbox, Playstation 4 and 5 and I currently have a gaming PC that I use to also stream games live to the YouTube and Twitch platforms. I find this article particularly interesting because video games have always had a negative connotation when it comes to cognitive function much like watching TV. From my experience gaming can help with problem solving skills, hand eye coordination and even reaction time, but just like most screen based activities it is good to practice moderation and use protective lenses that filter blue light to help reduce the strain on your eyes.

The variables expressed in this study include: Video game usage (hours per day) which represents the amount of time children spend playing video games daily (none vs 3+ hours). This variable is quantitative because it is measured in time (hours) and the level of measurement is ratio because the true zero exists when meaningful comparisons like twice as much time are made. Additionally, there are many other variables including: cognitive test performance which is quantitative with a ratio level of measurement, age of participants which is quantitative with a ratio measurement, mental health and behavioral scores which is quantitative but uses an interval level of measurement, gaming group classification which is qualitive and uses an ordinal level of measurement, and finally cognitive task accuracy category (faster/more accurate vs lower performance) which is qualitive and uses an ordinal level of measurement.

This study uses a mixture of both types of variables for most of the data, this allows researchers to compare behavior with performance and brain activity. I hope you all found this interesting, I sure did! Need Assignment Help?
