Discussing the upcoming end of my internship with clients

Problem:

My plan for termination begins by discussing the upcoming end of my internship with clients well in advance rather than waiting until my last day. I will remind clients that although my internship is ending, Hope's Door New Beginning Center will continue providing services through licensed staff, advocates, and case managers. During final interactions, I will review the progress clients have made toward their goals, recognize their strengths and resilience, answer any questions they may have about future services, and encourage them to continue utilizing available community resources. When appropriate, I will introduce clients to the staff members who will continue working with them to help create a smooth transition and minimize feelings of uncertainty. My termination process will also follow both agency policies and the standards of the social work profession. Hope's Door New Beginning Center emphasizes client safety, confidentiality, continuity of care, and trauma-informed services. Therefore, I will ensure that all client documentation is completed accurately and on time, communicate relevant information to my field instructor and agency staff, and maintain confidentiality throughout the transition process. In addition, I will follow the NASW Code of Ethics by maintaining professional boundaries, avoiding abrupt endings, and ensuring that clients understand how to continue receiving services after my departure (NASW, 2021).
