Discussing shifts towards new global health paradigms

Assignment:

GLOBAL HEALTH ASSIGNMENT!!!

Instructions

All the readings for this week offer perspectives on how to address inequalities when discussing shifts towards new global health paradigms. All authors propose one or more approaches to health (and social) inequalities in relation to human rights, funding (cost-effectiveness), cultural differences and global ethics (among the medical professions, policymakers, state representatives, etc.). Discuss in some detail the two different approaches by Farmer (i.e. pragmatic solidarity) and Crisp and compare and contrast their points of confluences and differences in relation to how they discuss issues of global health and 1) human rights; 2) corporate / market ethics; 3) health professional' roles in relation to patients; and 4) scientific advancements. Make sure to cover each of these four points to develop your paper. Finally provide a well-justified statement as to what, in your view, seems to be the most promising approach to a global health paradigm shift.

Explain why and use clear examples from the readings. Personal examples are welcome but they do not replace demonstrating that you have done the readings carefully.

Note: This is how should you format your paper:

1. Give a title to your paper (i.e. "Week One Paper"; "Understanding Global Health..."; ext.)

2. Length: 2-page long, not including List of References, which you need to add at the end (see syllabus for more details).

3. Double-space text with Times New Roman font size 12.
