Understanding Wage Discrimination

This is the last discussion. If you are satisfied with your grades on the other three discussions, you need not do it. I will drop the lowest graded discussion. That said, it is an interesting topic.

Wage discrimination occurs when two different groups of people with identical characteristics are paid differently (e.g. groups such as males/females or whites/non-whites). In 2010, the median income of full-time yearly workers was $42,800 for men, compared to $34,700 for women (Wikipedia). This difference is often referred to as the gender gap.

Discusses the pay for different professions (majors). Given the video, please discuss whether or not the above gender gap can be attributed solely to wage discrimination. As you think about this issue, consider causation versus correlation. Does being female (male) cause lower (higher) wages or is some other mutual influence producing the correlation of wages to gender?
