Assignment
This is the 5 paragraph essay. These one is a little different. First, you don't have to respond to peers here. This should be considered a serious essay/paper. You will chose a prompt and write your essay. The structure is similar to the 3 paragraph ones: intro, body, body, body, conclusion, again saving a final point for the conclusion. The essays should be 5 paragraphs and 400 or more words; again, minimum is not an A. There are 6 prompts to choose from, you must choose one, not write a little on all 6. No resubmissions, you get one chance to write and submit. The variables that effect your grade are: length, depth, clarity. Every one will receive direct feedback from the teacher which is designed to further deepen your take away.
Exceptional ("A"-level) essays will attempt to draw in course concepts and relate these to the topic, i.e., how specific fallacies and errors in reasoning might apply.
Essays should be mostly in your own words, but it is helpful to briefly refer directly to what the authors/textbook/lessons say, using quotes. This will be run in Turnitin for plagiarism.
Pick one:
o Explain why "ignorance is bliss" is really just a worthless cliché.
o Discuss the very disappointing reality that our society is plagued by various 'isms' (racism, sexism, classism, ageism, etc), and how we might eradicate them.
o Discuss your concerns about the implications that the usage of both euphemism and dysphemism have on our world. (focusing on media and politics)
o Discuss the implications of the various cognitive and social biases and what we can do to minimize them and their effect.
o Discuss the importance of critical thinking regarding both school and out in the real world, include the concepts of integrity, sincerity, and objectivity.
o Discuss how this class helped you to become a better thinker. (Use 3 specific factors from class material.)
Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:
o The answer should be typed, using Times New Roman font (size 12), double spaced, with one-inch margins on all sides.
o The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
o Also include a reference page. The Citations and references must follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
