Essay Problem
1) Prepare a position paper (essay) on whether or not local/state/federal law enforcement agencies should be allowed to possess and or use military equipment/gear and under what circumstances, if any; e.g., armored vehicles, sniper rifles, flashbang grenades, grenade launchers, camouflage ("battle dress") uniforms, etc.
2) Discuss what protective equipment/gear and under what circumstances, if any, officers should be allowed to possess and or use and police protective equipment/gear; e.g., tear gas, assault rifles, rubber bullets, riot helmets, face visors, body armor, knee pads, riot shields, etc.
3) The purpose of a position paper or argument essay is to explain both sides of a controversy/issue and discusses why one is stronger or better than the other.
4) Highlight the differences between the opposing views.
5) Provide at least two actual examples in which such equipment was required or needed.
6) Provide two actual examples in which such equipment was used, but was not necessary.
The response should include a reference list. Using one-inch margins, Times New Roman 12 pnt font, double-space and APA style of writing and citations.
