There are structural and non-structural mitigation measures. Each serves a purpose and has a place in the different areas of mitigation. Give an example of a structural and a non-structural mitigation measure? What mitigation measures are best suited to address the hazards faced by your community?
Mitigation comes in many different forms and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is an example of non-structural mitigation. Discuss the benefits of the NFIP. Some argue this is not a mitigation measure since it just transfers the financial responsibility from one entity to another. Do you agree? Why or why not?
Discuss what mitigation measures are best suited to address the hazards faced by your hometown community (both structural and non-structural)? What more should be done to address your community's hazards? What impediments exist for mitigation in your community?
