Discuss what images and/or symbols contribute to effect

Assignment task: Who is speaking in each passage, about whom or what? Then discuss what images and/or symbols contribute to its effect(s).

1.  "You must be crazy, punch drunk, you old goat; instead of going out to find a smith to sleep warm in-or a tavern bench-you stay putting your oar in, amid all our men. Numbskull, not to be scared!  The wine you drank has clogged your brain, or are you always this way, boasting like a fool? Or have you lost your mind because you beat that tramp, Iros?  Look out, or someone better may get up and give you a good knocking about the ears to send you out all bloody."

2.  "Grim horror, then, came home to me. I saw my father when I saw the king, the life going out with the cruel wound. I saw Creusa, forsaken, my abandoned home, Iulus, my little son. I looked around. They all had gone, exhausted, flung down from the walls, or dead in the fire, and I was left alone."
