Closely read pages 49-54 on reason, emotion, and artificial intelligence. Using information from the textbook, discuss the validity of using artificial intelligence to help you write an essay. Can an AI create meaningful discussion on any topic that requires reason? Should all and any use of AI be considered cheating? For example, would use of spell check be considered as much plagiarism, as using a ChatBot like ChatGPT? Why or why not? What is the difference between the two?
Your response should be an essay organized into 3-5 full pages of MLA formatted content, including a proper heading, a works cited page, and page numbers.
Instructions
I. Of course, make sure that you read the required pages from the textbook, annotating them and pointing out the most interesting and important concepts.
II. Once you have collected your notes on the concepts in Chapter 2, pre-write for about five minutes your thoughts on the questions in the prompt. Feel free to include your thoughts, reactions, frustrations, and questions in your pre-write.
III. If it helps, start to think about how you want to organize your essay. What specific examples from the textbook do you want to use? Where would they make the most sense? In what order do your main ideas make the most sense? Remember, all essays for our class should be about 30% ideas from other writers and 70% your ideas!
IV. Take a five minute break. Go outside, refill your water, stretch. Do what you need to do to clear your mind.
V. Start writing your first draft. Focus here on simply getting your ideas in order and on the page.
VI. When you've had a little bit of distance, bring your first draft to someone else (including your groupmate, folks at the Tutoring Center, or me, during office hours!). Get another pair of eyes on your essay. Have this person ask you honest questions about your work - what might they find confusing? What might they want to know more about? What do they think works well, or could work better?
VII. Once you've got some answers to those questions, think about how to clarify and highlight your strengths while strengthening your weaknesses.
