Read the secession documents for Georgia, Mississippi, and Texas,(don't worry about the other two) found here:The Declaration of Causes of Seceding States By Georgia and answer the following questions.
The first two answers should be at least one page double spaced, each. Your answer to the last question should be at least one and a half pages double spaced.
1. In Mississippi's declaration, after the line that starts with " The hostility to this institution commenced before the adoption of the Constitution..." they make a laundry list of events and legislation that chipped away at slavery and the power of slave holding states. Identify two of these events or pieces of legislation (these should be clear from your textbook reading, even though they are not named) that were alluded to and explain why Mississippians included them.
2. How does Texas try to play on its unique status as a former republic to justify secession? Why?
3. Discuss three commonalities between the three states in what they said was the reason(s) for secession, or how they justified secession.
