This essay gives you an opportunity to apply what you have learned in this lesson by examining and describing the strategies for managing different types of conflict.

Activity Scenario:

• Think of a conflict you've experienced, or that you observed among others, that you believe was resolved in a positive manner.

• Next, think of a conflict example you've had, or observed, that was not positively resolved.

Complete the following steps:

Step 1: Read the following questions and use what you have learned about this lesson's objective to summarize your responses.

• What was the difference between these two scenarios? Examine the principles of power and conflict in each situation. Describe the nature and types of conflict in each situation.

• Compare and contrast the characteristics that led to a positive resolution in one situation and a negative or no resolution in the other situation.

• Based on your analysis of the two situations, what strategies for conflict management do you think were most effective and why?
