Topics
1. Activism or Slacktivism: Choose two (2) social movements either begun on or spread by social media in recent years. Examples include but are not limited to #MeToo, #BlackLivesMatter, #NeverAgain, ETC. Discuss how the movements developed and whether, in your view, the use of social media helped or hindered the cause (was it activism or slacktivism?)
2. Social or Antisocial: During the semester, we've discussed the various ways social media has been used both to forge connections and to spread information and sometimes misinformation. Social media has expanded to include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr, and tik-Tok. Write an essay in which you argue whether ultimately social media makes us more social or antisocial. You might also consider how technology and social media in particular have played a critical role in maintaining connections, sharing information, and creating employment and education opportunities during the Covid-19 pandemic.
