• Does popular music contain bias against women? Listen to at least two types of music (e.g, rap, rock, country, etc.). Discuss the various messages regarding the life goals and the relative power of males and females that are presented in each of the types of music. Cite specific examples when applicable.
• Of the issues discussed in this chapter---living together, single parenting, child care, conflicts between work and family life, divorce, child support, gay marriage, and new reproductive technology---which do you view as the most serious problem? Explain your choice.
• Evaluate the environmental predictions of Thomas Malthus. On balance, do you think he was more right or more wrong?
• How does demographic transition theory help explain Malthus's predictions?
