As an employee, what have you experienced regarding the federal employment laws governing staffing? Do you feel your organization was ethical and in compliance with the federal laws and regulations? Why, or why not?
LEGAL ASPECTS
Both employers and employees have a right to contest citations and penalties and to request a review of decisions made by administrative law judges by the full Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission. The process is used frequently by employers but infrequently by employees. Discuss situations where you believe an employee would benefit the most from contesting a citation, and why you believe employees do not participate in the process.
HAZARDOUS MATERIALS
Does your current organization (or one you used to work for) have a written hazard communication (HazCom) program? Have you been (or were you) provided a copy of, or received any training on, the various program elements? What changes would you recommend to improve OSHA compliance? If the organization does not have a hazard communication program, do you feel one is needed? Why, or why not?
