"My daughter loves volleyball and plays year-round, started on the high school volleyball team, and went to state as a freshman. Sophomore year, she was named offensive player of the all- league. Parents and coaches keep telling her dad and me how great she is, and she will have no problem paying for college and possibly getting a scholarship. She works hard at all the volleyball clinics and goes to open gyms, but what brought me joy was when she went to her high school volleyball coach, excited that she had been accepted into Running Start. She was so proud that she had taken and passed enough advanced classes as a freshman and sophomore, and had gotten good grades in everything else that she was able to enroll in college classes and possibly earn her high school diploma and an associate's degree at the same time. Her coach was excited for her and asked him to let her know if there was anything he needed to do to make sure she could play volleyball and run in Running Start, since those are her two high school goals. My daughter decided to put academics ahead of playing college volleyball, knowing that she still has the opportunity to play competitive volleyball in adult leagues. As a basketball player, I had to make decisions like this, but 1 was not as dedicated to school as she is."
