Students will also be expected to write an original research paper examining a "hot topic" in corrections. I chose Mentally Ill Prisoners Issues and Mistreatment. The paper will require students to: 1) discuss the social/political/economic relevance of the topic; 2) describe the current policies and approaches used to address the topic; 3) present the findings of current empirical research on the topic; and 4) provide policy/legal/social suggestions for how to deal with the topic given the current policies in effect, and the current research. and the final completed paper will contain 10 pages of typed text (excluding title page, table of contents, reference page.)
