Assignment:
Use available OSHA and/or news sources to find an accident involving a crane to use as the basis of this discussion assignment. The accident that you select for this assignment must meet the following criteria:
• The accident occurred in the last five (5) years.
• The accident has been investigated and the root causes have been determined by OSHA or another regulatory agency (i.e.. municipality or state entity) and/or discussed at length in the news media.
For this discussion activity, provide a thorough summary of the crane accident that you selected. As part of the summary. discuss the root causes of the accident and any OSHA citations that were issued. Provide your thoughts on what actions you might take as a safety professional for the crane company to ensure that an accident like the one you described does not happen again. Be specific and use the 29 CFR 1926 Subpart CC regulation to support your proposed program, training. or other corrective actions.
