Discuss how architecture is used as a means of power and control by giving examples from rise of modern colonialism (18-20th c), the postcolonial reaction AND the chapter by Faedah Totah's "Introduction: Gentrification, a "civilizing Process".

Part 1- Discuss the rise of signature architecture (or star architecture or architecture as object or consumable project) in relationship to: 1. The rise of Dubai as the "exemplar" 21st century city; and, 2. Edward Dimenberg's introduction to a discussion of the work of Diller Scofidio.
Part 2- Cite any architect (and one of their specifics proejcts) to add to/amplify this discussion.

Use Roger Aden's "Displacing the Inconvenient" and the work of Haas and Hahn in Rio AND Philadelphia in your answer.
