Assignment Task:
Discuss the public service perspective (MPA Learning Outcome) and MPA program values of democracy, diversity, and due process. This is an interesting topic pertaining to our MPA PROGRAM. Rokeach states that values in public service are standards judged by actions attitudes, methods and outcomes. As a society and a country, we judge how we think someone in public service is for the people by exactly the standards stated. The Navy Ethos states in one of its paragraphs a quote that has stuck with me for 23 years "Integrity is the foundation of our conduct." That is true today in public service setting, workplace setting, family, and even in school. Integrity directly reflects actions, attitudes, methods and outcomes. Diversity, Democracy, and due process are big topics today. On page 712 Kernaghan discusses ethical values as "the rule of law and loyalty." Loyalty can be very tricky because there is a such thing as blind loyalty. For example, in the Navy as Chiefs (E7-E9) we are to hold each other accountable as leaders making moral and ethical decisions every day but sometimes depending on the person may have blind loyalty. They may not want to call someone out for a decision they made because they are a Chief and want to protect them. While that can be a moral and ethical dilemma it falls back to "Integrity is the foundation of our conduct." Diversity is about respecting people without worrying about race, ethnicity, age, religious beliefs, and gender. REWORD, Need Assignment Help?
