Domestic Violence Services FINAL EXAM

Question #1

Children have been called the "forgotten victims" of intimate partner violence. Based on class material, what do children growing up in homes with intimate partner violence need? What services/resources/policies already are meeting the needs of children? What needs to change, and why would those changes help? Support your arguments with information from readings and from class discussion.

Question #2

Much of the systems advocacy and legislation around intimate partner violence has focused on enhancing the police and court responses. Discuss the pros and cons of relying on the legal system to address intimate partner violence, including the potential impact of the response on survivors and on batterers.

If you could "start over," how would the legal system (police and courts) respond to intimate partner violence, if at all? Why? Support your arguments with information from the readings and class discussion.

Question #3

So now what???? We have talked about the history of responses to intimate partner violence, and we have talked about issues in the current responses. One of the challenges advocates and agencies face is setting priorities for change.

While many things may need to change, organizations can rarely work on everything at once. Think about future directions for the social movement to end intimate partner violence. What should the priorities of this movement be?

(Hint: Think broadly about big-picture issues, rather than about tweaking specific policies or procedures.) Support your arguments with information from readings and class discussion.

Citations: When referring to information from class readings or discussion, make sure the supporting information is clearly cited with either the author and year (for readings) or with the phrase "(class discussion on date)." If you use exact quotes from the readings, you must put them in quotation marks and include the page number in the citation.

You do not need a reference list for required class readings. If you bring in information from other sources, you must cite them in the text and include a reference list.
