Using the Person-Centered Approach apply it to the vignette listed below. Also, include any interventions from the theory that you have chosen to address the issues outlined.
Vignette
You have been assigned a 51 year old Caucasian male client by your agency. Ralph reports feeling depressed and not happy with himself. He has never been married and has no children. Ralph states that he feels like a failure due to not having accomplished much during his life and appears to suffer from low self-esteem. He wants to meet the right woman and eventually get married but has never been assertive enough to make this happen. He had one previous relationship several years ago where there was some domestic violence (Ralph states that his girlfriend initiated much of it and he was only protecting himself). Ralph has done well professionally, but it appears that his issues lie more in the personal realm.
1. What theory in our text would you use to work with this client?
2. What interventions from the theory you have chosen would you use with Ralph?
3. What would be your general approach to working with Ralph (i.e. what do you think is important to address, how to address those issues, etc.)
4. What, if any, barriers do you see in working with Ralph (i.e. would these issues hit too close to home for you, would there be a need to refer to someone else, be reflective here)?
