The first case: Misty is a 33-year-old mother who continues to struggle with heroin addiction after ten years and many attempts at treatment. Misty is also attempting to regain custody of her child, and her last counselor believed that she was not "getting it."

The second case: Ben is a 62-year-old laborer who is seeking treatment for alcohol abuse. Ben has also been using opioid pain medication to treat his back pain from a work-related injury and has a supportive family.

The third case: Ralph is a 45-year-old who was recently paroled after serving time for nonviolent offenses related to his crack cocaine addiction. He did not complete high school and has no marketable job skills. Ralph did attend Alcoholics Anonymous in prison and, as a condition of his parole, needs "drug counseling."
