Choose a famous work of architecture from either the Romanesque or Gothic period. This was a great age of cathedral building in France, England, Italy, Germany, and elsewhere. Choose one work such as Westminster Abbey in London, or Chartres Cathedral in Chartres, France, etc.
Considered to be: Early example of a Hallenkrche, in which the aisles are the same heigt as the nave. Can find some information in Gardner's Art Through The Ages; 15th edition.
Discuss the history of the architecture,the architectural components such as: nave, transept, side aisles, apse, and the like. Indicate if the work was later added onto.
Discuss the iconography or symbolism of the style. What are the characteristics of the Romanesque or Gothic style? How does your work of art reflect this?
Does your cathedral have a sculptural program on the exterior or interior? Or paintings? If so, discuss the meaning or symbolism of this decoration. Include embedded pictures, (embedded photo-I WILL DO THIS).
Be sure that you have at least two good quality academic, scholarly sources (must be from journal/recognized sources). You need to use in-text citations or footnotes, and have a bibliography at the end or works cited. Be sure to use MLA or Turabian.
