Foss notes that the ways in which rhetors cluster terms in particular artifacts reveal their attitudes as well as the attitudes the rhetorical discourse may recommend to the audience.
For this assignment, select and read ONE of the following sample essays:
Domenico's "An Invitation to Reopen Debate: Jimmy Carter's Speech at Brandeis University" (p.89) or Gilmore's "A Rhetoric of Reassurance: A Cluster Analysis of Jiang Zemin's Address at the Handover of Hong Kong" (p. 99).
Then write a 1.5 to 2 page essay in which you:
[1] identify two or three of the clusters uncovered by the critic, and
[2] discuss the attitudes suggested by these clusters.
Note: Please do not fudge on the length. Use TNR 12, standard margins, and double spacing.
