The 86th session of the Texas Legislature began January 8 and ended May 27, 2019.

Approximately 140 days are given to propose, deliberate and pass laws. Using the Texas Legislative website at https://www.legis.state.tx.us/, look up two (2) Senate or House bills (SB or HB) that were proposed in the Texas Legislature during this session. Be certain you identify the correct year and legislative session.

1. For each bill, describe the purpose of the bill and identify the author of the bill.

2. Why is this bill a good policy to adopt, or, conversely, why would this bill be bad policy for Texas? What groups, voters, political parties, etc would support and/or oppose this bill?

3. Discuss the actions taken for the bill? For example, what was the final vote in the House and Senate? Has the bill been voted on in both the Texas House and Senate? Has it been signed by the Governor? Is it, therefore, a law?

4. Finally, do you support or oppose the bill. Why or why not?
