Discuss the absence or appearence of zero point energy for

Discuss the absence or appearence of zero point energy for translational and rotational motion for 2 and 3 dimensions.

For rotational I see that 2D has no zero point energy because it can be considered a particle on a ring, but I don't understand how that plays into the answer. and 3d has none because it can be considered an assembly of rings.

My book doesn't seem to mention zero point energy for translational motion in either case, although it appears that the energy can equal zero.
