Discuss teaching methods for online students

Assignment Task: Will the teaching below be appropriate as teaching methods for online students?

When instructing a group of students on the concept of replication and related issues, there are many aspects of online teaching that can be utilized. According to Diener and Biswas-Diener (2022), many scientists in the field of psychology have voiced concern over the lack of replication in research, making this both relevant and an important discussion for students to understand confidently. Due to this, I would use two methods of online instruction more readily than others: learner-centered education and multimodal content. Learner centered education is a method in which students tend to be more in charge of how they learn, with the instructor there to guide students in collaborating with their peers as well as participating in the class (Smith and Brame, 2014). The reason that I selected this method is because students will be able to participate in class in the ways that they need to understand the information, and may be given more opportunities to learn in peer discussions versus through myself alone. Two ways in which this can be accomplished are by ensuring students are aware that I am there and ready to help as well as encouraging students to communicate with one-another (Smith & Brame, 2014). This is a beneficial method for this particular topic because the replication crisis is an issue in research, so it may be more reading intensive than instructing students on a more technical subject like the use of SPSS (Diener & Biswas-Diener, 2022). The amount of reading needed for this topic may also be balanced out by the use of multimodal content. Learning through multimodal content involves the use of different types of media such as videos, presentations, and other activities that may be more interactive (Smith & Brame, 2014). Multimodal content may allow for primary sources aside from reading, like a TEDtalk from an expert in the field of social psychology discussing the replication issue or a statistician explaining false-positives and how to avoid them. Smith & Brame (2014) explain that multimodal content may be useful in instructing students who differ from others in the way that they learn.
