Discuss specific interventions follow-up questions and

Read the following case and identify and discuss specific interventions, follow-up questions and recommendations as well as address the special needs Jack might need when taking assessments, or other accommodations in service delivery that might need to be explored.

Jack comes into a walk-in career counseling service. He is in a wheelchair, but the counselor notices that he is able to fill out the "sign in" information with apparently moderate difficulty (the blanks for the sign-in appear to be too small). As the counselor talks about what brings him by, Jack says that he had been in construction "all his life," until about a year ago when he fell from a lift and was paralyzed from the waist down. He has been in rehabilitation since that time, and now it is time for him to focus on a career change. He says he loves construction, but the reality is that no one will respect him on the job if he is unable to operate the machinery. He states that he does not have the years needed to go into management, but that even if he did, no one would seriously consider him for the job. He does not appear to be bitter as he describes his situation, but resigned that he will not work in the area that is his first choice. He is married, and his wife has had to return to work (she was a homemaker) to help meet the hospital and everyday living bills. He has two kids, one who is 17 and another who is 11. He is willing to undertake additional training, but is unsure about his ability to do "college" work.
