From a social/ecological system framework, describe some of the factors that may affect the family unit in response to the birth and continued presence of a child with a birth defect or disability? Many of these parents experience shock in response to the birth of a child with a disability. Discuss some of the feelings associated with the shock, and the factors that affect the duration of this stage of shock. Describe how these factors present the unique difficulty of the mothers being over protective of a child with a disability as the child reaches late adolescence.
